Pet Walk Tracking & Badges – Tiny Tails

Pet Walk Tracking & Badges – Tiny Tails

Tiny Tails is a social platform designed for pet parents to manage their pets' health, track daily walks, celebrate milestones, and connect with a community of fellow pet lovers.

Instead of juggling separate apps for health records, activity tracking, and social sharing, Tiny Tails brings everything into one simple experience.

Key Focus

  • Create a delightful all-in-one experience for modern pet parents.

  • Encourage healthier pet lifestyles through activity tracking and gamification.

  • Simplify pet management by bringing health records, daily walks, and community engagement into one platform.

  • Design an intuitive, emotionally engaging product that strengthens the bond between pets and their owners.

The Problem

Users could track their pet walks, but the experience was mainly focused on distance and time. There was not much motivation for users to continue walking or come back to the feature regularly.

I wanted to make the walking experience more engaging by giving users a way to track their progress, compare with other users, and feel rewarded for reaching milestones.

The Solution

  • I designed the Walk experience around tracking, competition, and achievement.

  • Added a simple walk tracking flow to record the route, distance, and duration.

  • Added an optional personal walk goal so users can keep a target for their own reference. The goal does not control access to the Walk feature.

  • Introduced an overall leaderboard based on the total distance walked by Tiny Tails users.

  • Added 3 walk-based badges with clear criteria:

First Walk

Complete your first walk with any pet.

Explorer Pup

Walk in 5 different locations.

Longest Walk

Complete a walk of more than 5 km.

  • Made badges automatically unlock when the required criteria are achieved.

  • Added an Awards section to show unlocked and locked badges and help users understand what they can achieve next.

The main design decision was to make the system feel natural — users don't need to manually claim rewards. They simply walk, achieve the criteria, and get rewarded.

The Outcome

The expected outcome was to make pet walking feel more rewarding and give users more reasons to return to Tiny Tails.

I expected the experience to encourage users to:

  • Complete more walks.

  • Track their personal progress.

  • Explore different walking locations.

  • Improve their position on the leaderboard.

  • Reach new walking milestones.

  • Build a regular walking habit with their pets.

The Expected Output

The expected output was to create a more engaging walking experience that gives users a reason to continue using the feature.

I expected the new experience to:

  • Increase repeat usage of the Walk feature.

  • Encourage users to complete more walks.

  • Motivate users to explore different locations.

  • Encourage healthy competition through the leaderboard.

  • Give users a sense of achievement when they unlock badges.

  • Create a simple “Walk → Achieve → Come Back” loop that supports regular pet-walking habits.
